It's been emotional.

Some time ago Alan, whose comments have always been perceptive, to the point, and unerringly accurate, said that I changed my mind so much, I would make a darned good woman. He was right. Not that I am a woman. No. I'm not. The other bit about changing my mind. That's where he got it right. Today though, I have made a really difficult decision but one that I have to stick with. This is to be the last TPI blog post.

One of my faults is that I tend to think I can manage when quite clearly I cannot. I have recently realised that I just can't do a full time job, be a Dad, do all the gambling, keep all the records up to date, learn and trade the tennis in the evenings, and write a blog. Something has to give, especially with a lot of football betting that is going to very soon be added to the mix. I did seriously consider getting rid of Helen and the kids, but to be honest when I made the suggestion the tantrums were something to behold and in the end I was weak and gave in. So they stay.

The tennis trading has got off to a decent start. A huge part of that I'm sure is beginner's luck, but enough has happened already to make me think that I want to give it everything I can - to concentrate on it fully and try and make some real progress. It may be a pipedream, but if I can make that work, it provides options that I would love to be able to choose from. Ultimately, I can see my generating an income from that. I can't from blogging, so I'm going to do the Samir Nasri thing and go the way of the money.

What finally made my mind up was the error in the figures that a good friend of mine pointed out; what I referred to yesterday. It related to the month's figures for ProBandit, but after doing a full audit of all the bets I placed in the month, I found that my mistakes affected other services too. I very rarely made such mistakes. I don't think it is any coincidence that they started to creep in when I started trying to do too much. What is not fair though, is my blogging about services, putting performance levels out in the public domain, without being accurate. The whole episode shook me...it was simply not good enough. We're not talking about massive errors, but a bit here and a bit there. Those bits are too much though, if what you are saying about a service is not accurate.

It's only been nine months or so, but in that time this blog has been great fun to be involved with. Some of the issues that were discussed I found really interesting. What made them so were the comments that were left. Alan, Andy, Skeeve, Matt at Football Elite, Peter of Chasemaster, Graeme at TFA, Banaz, Sam at TME and JP amongst many others all added massively to the enjoyment I have found in writing TPI. I only ever had one daft comment left; one that had a go at me for not wanting Spurs to do well in Europe. I mean. Really. What did they expect?

Best of luck to everyone with their betting. I'll see a lot of you in various forums of course. Let's not be strangers.

There's one more thing. It's been emotional.

  5. I remember some time ago, listening to a guy on either W Hill radio or Betfair radio who was a successfull full time Pro, and a listener E Mailed the show asking for advice on making the move to being a full time Pro himself.

The Pro s advice was " to hedge hedge and hedge again to secure against a loss"

So with that in mind i wish you well with your trading. Hope you dont die of boredom tho haha.

I reckon tho its a great move by you simply because you are doing it yourself, not following "orders" by sticking to other peoples advice.

I have now, in fact, stopped betting. I was going to see out my subscriptions but to be honest something just cracked one day and i said," Nah im bored with this" and i havnt had a bet since. I have to say im not missing it.

this year has been very testing and when i see some very knowledgable people, who frequent the SBC forum, struggle, it really opens your eyes as to just how difficult it is to turn a regular profit from gambling.

The emotional side of betting is undoubtadly the hardest part to master and i must admit i dont think i ever really conquered that side.
It hasn t been nice to watch a certain person on the SBC forum almost go into Meltdown (sorry G M)as he watches his cash going down the pan, even after he has done everything that the betting portfolio model advises.

I also get alarmed at the naievity of other people writing comments on other blogs. Completely relying on luck in their futile attempts to make money from big name Tipsters with inadequate banks and having basically not a clue on how to win long term.

To anyone reading this who is thinking of getting into Portfolio Betting....... 1. Join SBC and read and read and read and dont start for some time untill you are 100% sur of what you are doing.

2.Have an adequate bank and protect it at all costs, work with twice the recomended bank for the service.
    3. If you want only one Tipster try and join one of the best. Equine Investmens being the obvious one
    4. Dont bother!!!! Stick your money in the bank cos, your mind set, bookies restrictions, bad luck mean that there is a huge chance that you will fail.... Strong words but all too true.

Best of luck to you Rowan mate, i feel that you have what it takes to ride out this run and get back into winning ways and dont worry too much about your beloved Arsenal..... Things could be worse.... I come from the worst sporting country on the planet. Yes im a jock and my team is Celtic!!!!!

Anyway footballs out!! Cmon Andy Murray haha

  9. Very sorry to hear this Rowan, will certainly miss my nightly check-in to see how things are going for you. But yes if you're sure it will help with your own profits then of course it has to be the right decision.

Thanks for your kind words about TME down the way, it's always been appreciated.

Perhaps you'll be able to post one more update this time next year summarising how your settled portfolio has got on (and trading of course), just to hopefully show that it is possible to make money in this game.

    All the best

  10. Hi Rowan,

Thanx for all the brilliant posts and, of course, for all the nice words written about my service. It's not what you write about, it's how you write about it and I have to admit (sorry JP, Kodagira and other fellow bloggers) this was my favorite blog by far. I'll still visit the blog from time to time, just in case - who knows, maybe Helen leaves you one day and takes the kids with her! :)

On a more serious note, good luck with the tennis trading and, of course, with cheering for Arsenal - you could've at least shared a few thoughts about Wenger's transfer deadline day signings before retiring the blog. :)

Late evenings won't be the same without this blog - even though I understand the decision completely.

    all the best,
    skeeve

  11. Good luck m8! Trading is the way forward, once you've struck gold it's just a case of having the psychological infrastructure in place to mine it.

  13. Hey mate, been great reading this blog. Although I have been less active, I stil have been reading it daily and enjoying it. A monthly update would be a good replacement. I have always felt a daily update takes too much out of personal time.

I will keep in contact by email and I'm sure I will see you occassioanlly on the SBC forum.

    Take care mate,

    Andy
